Burma Partnership (BP)Position: Media Officer
Location: Mae Sot, Thailand
Report directly to: Coordinators

Overall responsibility:
  • To strategically promote the voices of Burma’s democracy movement through local, regional, and international media
Key areas of responsibility:
  • Produce BP’s Weekly Highlights and issue Updates: gather key news and publications on Burma from inside, border-based and international sources, and write an editorial introduction on the key issue (s)
  • Write and edit materials for the media, including press releases, advisories, op-eds and web stories
  • Fulfill information requests from the media – connect reporters with appropriate representatives in the movement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with reporters and editorial boards in the region
  • Maintain a media contact list
  • Assist with press conferences and other media events
  • Monitor and prepare regular reports for staff on the movement’s media exposure
Consult with: Coordinators and the Secretariat

Term of employment: Yearly (subject to three month probation at the beginning of contract)

Qualification (general/core competencies):
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English (Burmese helpful)
  • Experience in journalism or media relations; excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong commitment to and understanding of Burma
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; sensitivity to local needs and culture
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Preferred: familiarity with regional media and ASEAN mechanisms

Salary & benefits:
  • Salary: 15,000 THB per month
  • Benefits: work-related travel expenses (including transportation, accommodation, communication, and per diem) are covered, and accommodation or housing stipend can be discussed.
